24 mai (Ha’aretz, Arnon Regular) – Les dirigeants du Hamas ont déclaré ouvertement ce week-end leur disponibilité pour débuter un cessez le feu temporaire (hudna) avec Israël, pour la première fois depuis la création de ce mouvement en 1987.
Si un tel cessez le feu était réalisé, ceci signifierait l’arrêt des attaques terroristes contre des civils en Israel.
Un des principaux porte-parole du Hamas à Gaza, Abdel Aziz Rantisi, qui représente habituellement sa tendance dure, a dit vendredi: « Le mouvement Hamas est prêt à stopper le terrorisme contre les civils Israéliens si Israel cesse de tuer des civils Palestiniens… Nous avons dit à Abou Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas) lors de nos rencontres qu’il y a une chance de cesser de viser les civils Israéliens si les Israéliens arrêtent les assassinats et les raids et cessent de brutaliser les civils Palestiniens. »
Rantisi a immédiatement circonscrit cette déclaration en disant: « Nous avons exprimé clairement à Abou Mazen que nous ne cesserions pas de viser les soldats Israéliens et les colons. »
Rantisi a aussi remarqué que le Hamas est parvenu à cette décision bien qu’il considère la « feuille de route » pour la paix, que le P.M. Abou Mazen essaie de promouvoir, comme « un désastre pour le peuple Pplestinien, qui a été le résultat d’un complot occidental contre lui, conçu pour stopper l’opposition militaire à l’occupation ».
La déclaration de Rantisi est venue après que, ces derniers jours, d’autres porte-parole du Hamas aient exprimé des idées similaires lors de réunions internes, et fait état d’une atmosphère positive lors d’une rencontre avec le Premier Ministre Mahmoud Abbas (Abou Mazen) à Gaza jeudi dernier.

Hamas declares willingness to enter temporary cease-fire

Hamas leaders openly declared their willingness this weekend to enter a temporary cease fire (hudna) with Israel, for the first time since the establishment of the movement in 1987. If such a cease fire is reached, it would mean a cessation of terror attacks against civilians in Israel.
One of the senior Hamas spokesmen in Gaza, Abdel Aziz Rantisi, who usually represents Hamas hard-liners, said on Friday: « The Hamas movement is prepared to stop terror against Israeli civilians if Israel stops killing Palestinian civilians … We have told (Mahmoud Abbas) Abu Mazen in our meetings that there is an opportunity to stop targeting Israeli civilians if the Israelis stop assassinations and raids and stop brutalizing Palestinian civilians. »
Rantisi immediately hedged his statement by saying: « We have made it clear to Abu Mazen that we would not stop targeting Israeli soldiers and settlers. »
Rantisi also noted that Hamas has reached this decision although the Hamas perceives the road map to peace, which Prime Minister Abu Mazen is trying to promote, as « a disaster for the Palestinian people that was the outcome of a Western plot against him, designed to stop military Palestinian opposition to the occupation. »
Rantisi’s statement came after in the last few days other Hamas spokespersons have expressed similar thoughts in closed meetings and reported a positive atmosphere in a meeting with Prime Minister Mahmoud Abas (Abu Mazen) in Gaza last Thursday.
