Shadi Alzaqzouq, artiste qui était invité par Bansky à exposer ses oeuvres à « Dismaland », vient de les recouvrir d’un grand drap pour protester contre l’invitation dans la même enceinte de 3 artistes israéliens qui ne se démarquent pas de l’occupant.
Invité à exposé dans le parc d’attraction Dismaland qui vient de s’ouvrir à Bristol en Angleterre, pour 5 semaines, quel ne fut pas l’étonnement de cet artiste palestinien dont la famille se trouve à Gaza, de se retrouver exposé à côté de trois Israéliens, sans en avoir été averti par les organisateurs, qui plus est.
Il s’est néanmoins rapproché de ces artistes israéliens, en espèrant qu’ils devaient sans doute être un peu contestataires de la politique israélienne pour avoir été invités par Bansky.
Las, il a dû rapidement déchanter. Non seulement servir dans l’armée d’occupation ne les choque pas, mals leurs enfants en feront autant, et cela est normal, estiment-ils.
Discutant de Jaffa, Shadi a fait savoir que sa famille était originaire de cette ville, mais qu’elle n’avait plus le droit d’y retourner, pas plus que lui-même. Ce à quoi il lui fut répondu : « De toute façon tout a été détruit, je ne vois pas quel intérêt tu aurais à y retourner ».
Et le comble, c’est le sujet même choisi par l’un des ces artistes pour figurer dans ce « parc d’attractions » de Bansky.

Gaza ? Bingo ! Mais par n’importe quel Gaza : l’oeuvre représente la violence de l’expulsion par Sharon des colons qui y résidaient jusqu’en 2005 !
Nous ne savons pas si Bansky a pris la mesure de cet affront, et du fait que ce genre d' »attractions » est du plus mauvais goût. Mais nous tenons à féliciter Shadi Alzaqzouq, qui a alors décidé de renoncer à exposer ses oeuvres dans ce contexte, et les a recouvert d’une toile exprimant sa protestation, ce que peut constater le public sur place.

Three cheers for Shadi Alzaqzouq, a Palestinian artist who refuses to take part in the whitewashing of Israeli crimes!
Shadi Alzaqzouq, an artist who has been invited by Banksy to exhibit his own works in “Dismaland”, has just covered them with a large sheet, as a protest against the invitation into the one precinct, extended to 3 Israeli artists who do not contest the Israeli policy.
Invited to exhibit in the Dismaland amusement park which has just opened in Bristol, in England, for a period of 5 weeks, this Palestinian artist whose family lives in Gaza, was greatly surprised to find himself and his exhibits next to three Israelis, what’s more without warning from the organisers.
Nevertheless, he approached these Israeli artists, hoping they might be somewhat critical of Israeli politics if they had been invited by Banksy.
Alas, he could do nothing but quickly turn disillusioned. Not only they did not refuse to serve in the occupation army but they stated that thier children would do the same, as a normal thing.
Talking about Jaffa, Shadi revealed that his own family came from that town, but was not allowed to ever return there, the same applying to him. To which he received the reply: “In any case, everything was destroyed, so I can’t see what’s the point returning there.”
And, to cap it all, is the very theme chosen by one of these artists for a place in Banksy’s “amusement park”.
Guess what?
Gaza? Bingo! And not just any Gaza : the piece of work illustrates the violent way Sharon expelled the settlers who had stayed there until 2005!
We do not know whether Banksy realized this affront, or the bad taste of this kind of “amusement”. However, we really want to congratulate Shadi Alzaqzouq who decided to stop showing his works in this situation, and covered them with a cloth, thus expressing his protest – which the public can notice on the spot.
