Plus d’une centaine d’artistes, dont des stars hollywoodiennes, des auteurs acclamés et des musiciens de premier plan, exigent des comptes pour le meurtre par Israël de la journaliste palestinienne Shireen Abu Akleh.
Pedro Almodovar, Susan Sarandon, Tilda Swinton, Mark Ruffalo, Eric Cantona, Miriam Margolyes, Jim Jarmusch, Naomi Klein et Peter Gabriel appellent dans une lettre à des sanctions en fonction de « l’entière responsabilité des auteurs de ce crime et de toutes les personnes impliquées dans son autorisation ».
Les artistes et les personnalités publiques ont critiqué un « modèle de violence, de harcèlement et d’intimidation contre les journalistes palestiniens qui mettent en lumière ce qu’Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch et la principale organisation israélienne de défense des droits humains, B’Tselem, ont décrit comme un système de l’apartheid imposé au peuple palestinien ».
Citant la réponse à l’invasion de l’Ukraine par la Russie, les auteurs Colm Tóibín, Kamila Shamsie, Arundhati Roy, Philip Pullman et Monica Ali ont appelé les gouvernements occidentaux à « mettre fin à leur hypocrisie et à agir avec cohérence dans l’application du droit international et des droits de l’homme ».
« Il ne doit pas y avoir de doubles standards en matière de droit humain fondamental à la liberté, contre la persécution et l’oppression, et le droit à la vie et à la dignité ». ont conclu les signataires, parmi lesquels l’acteur et ancien footballeur Eric Cantona, l’auteure Naomi Klein, la DJ Marea Stamper (The Blessed Madonna) et l’auteur et économiste Yanis Varoufakis.
