» Nous, les Juifs du monde entier, appelons les Juifs et les organisations juives du monde entier à retirer les drapeaux israéliens des espaces communs, que ce soit dans les écoles juives, les bureaux de la Fédération juive ou les synagogues. Il est clair pour nous – et pour une grande partie du monde – comme l’ont démontré les rapports de B’Tselem et de Human Rights Watch – que l’État israélien est un régime d’apartheid et donc, comme le droit international le confirme à juste titre, il s’agit d’un crime contre l’humanité permanent.
Le gouvernement d’Israël, depuis sa création, a été déterminé à soumettre totalement ou à retirer les Palestiniens autochtones de la terre sur laquelle ils ont vécu pendant des siècles. L’État juif suprémaciste d’Israël est profondément discriminatoire et nécessairement violent envers les Palestiniens qui résistent naturellement à l’oppression et à l’expulsion.
Israël s’allie logiquement aux forces d’extrême droite et antisémites même si cela met en danger les Juifs du monde entier. Cela peut sembler étonnant, mais ces alliances nocives sont depuis longtemps la pratique des organisations sionistes qui ont travaillé pour créer Israël.
Il est de plus en plus important pour les Juifs de faire la distinction entre le judaïsme et l’État d’Israël et ses politiques. En arborant un drapeau israélien bien en vue dans nos institutions communautaires, nous permettons aux antisémites de croire que nos intérêts sont inextricablement liés à ceux d’un État dont nous abhorrons la politique. Les signataires comprennent des personnalités telles que le professeur de culture talmudique Daniel Boyarin, le professeur Judith Butler, les rabbins David Mivasai, Lucía Pizarro et Gabriel, Hagai, Kohenet Rae Abileah, l’avocate Margaret Ratner Kunstler, l’actrice israélo-allemande Nirit Sommerfeld et de nombreux moins connus personnes identifiées dans la déclaration par groupe militant, profession ou résidence géographique.
Pourquoi les drapeaux américains et israéliens sont-ils systématiquement dans les synagogues et les bureaux de la Fédération juive en premier lieu ?
